The local music community in Dayton is increasing efforts to recognize the impact and legacy of the area's funk history. Petitions and pushes are underway to commemorate iconic Dayton funk band Ohio Players with local and national notice: to have a portion of Hillcrest Avenue dubbed Ohio Players Way, and to successfully induct the group into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Longtime local musician and music journalist Don Thrasher spoke with Radio Basim on WYSO's Behind the Groove about the group's history, the petition making the rounds for the Hall of Fame ballot entry, and his recent article for Dayton.com about the street renaming campaign.

The petition to earn Ohio Players a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, created by Daytonian Keith Jenkins is available on , and Don Thrasher's articles on the and the can be found on Dayton.com.
