The Eddie Eagle cartoon, produced by the National Rifle Association in the late 1980s, is being used in Cleveland, Akron and cities across the country to try to teach children gun safety. But research shows it's ineffective.

Gun locks and lock boxes are available free of charge at all Columbus fire stations starting Monday as part of the new 鈥淟ove Our Children, Lock Your Guns鈥� initiative.

The city is offering free lock boxes to residents through the Department of Public Health.
