For more than 40 years, the annual Twelfth Night concert of The Early Interval, Columbus鈥� resident early music ensemble, has reminded us that Christmas is just the beginning of the traditional season of holiday merriment.

The Early Interval, Columbus' resident early music ensemble, and faculty and student interns from the Animation Department of Columbus College of Art and Design present the fruits of an innovative collaboration in Speculara, a concert of live early music and animations, Sunday, May 7 at 7 p.m. in Capital University鈥檚 Huntington Recital Hall.

If you鈥檝e been to an orchestra or band concert before, then you鈥檝e seen the usual concert routine. But Scott Jones, professor and associate director of bands at the Ohio State University School of Music, is crafting performances with one of his ensembles differently these days. And the results are anything but predictable.

Columbus鈥� resident early music ensemble, The Early Interval, brings the holiday season to a close with a Twelfth Night concert featuring exquisite music composed by women in the convents of 16th- and 17th-century Italy.

For Christa Patton, the medieval bray harp may look old, but it鈥檚 hardly old-fashioned.鈥淚 like to describe it as the electric guitar of the 14th century,鈥� said Patton, a historical harpist and wind instrumentalist.
