A former Ohio State football player serving time on federal gun trafficking charges is asking a judge to throw out part of his sentence.
Raymond Small pleaded guilty last year. He was an Ohio State receiver from 2006 to 2009.
Prosecutors said he sold eight guns, including a machine gun, to an undercover agent, while on probation after serving time for drug trafficking.
The federal judge hasn't ruled on his request for a reduced sentence.
Small stated in the request that the defense attorney who represented him in the latest case was ineffective.
Small also stated the lawyer should have objected to mentions of his prior convictions that were more than a decade old, and shouldn't have allowed enhancements to his sentence that were based on charges against him that were dropped.
Small was also in the news about 15 years ago, when he gave Ohio State's student newspaper, The Lantern, details about the tattoos teammates received in connection with a memorabilia scandal.
