Ohio high school athletes may soon be able to capitalize on their name, image and likeness under a proposal that mirrors changes made at the collegiate level less than a year ago.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced Tuesday that member high school principals will vote on 14 potential changes to the organization's constitution and bylaws.
Among them is , which, if adopted, would allow student-athletes to sign endorsement agreements so long as their teams, schools, or the OHSAA logo are not used.
There is also a prohibition against endorsements for companies that do not support the mission of education-based athletics, such as gambling, alcohol, drugs or tobacco.
Member schools are set to vote on the changes next month.
If adopted, the resolution would take effect May 16.
