President Joe Biden has signed the $1.2 trillion dollar infrastructure bill into law. The plan will place $550 billion in new money into transportation, broadband and utilities.
This is especially good news for Amtrak receiving more money than it has in its 50-year history.
Half the money in the infrastructure bill alloted to Amtrak would go to building out intercity passenger rail where it doesn鈥檛 exist. Some of that money could be spent right here in the Buckeye State.
Columbus is the second-largest U.S. city without intercity rail. However, passenger rail service, connecting Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati, could be returning.
Coming up, we鈥檒l mark the 50th anniversary of Amtrak and plans to return rail travel between Ohio鈥檚 major cities.
