As the grandson of a slave and the first African American to serve on the Supreme Court, Thurgood Marshall dedicated his life to the Civil Rights Movement. As an attorney, he argued the Brown v. Board of Education case that outlawed racial segregation in public schools. Marshall served on the Supreme Court for 24 years.
