Anthony Pierson, the deputy chief legal counsel for the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office, is resigning later this month.

First Assistant Prosecutor Ed Leonard confirmed Pierson will leave the office on Dec. 20.

Pierson was the lead prosecutor on the Adam Coy murder trial. Coy, a former Columbus police officer, was convicted last month in the 2020 shooting death of Andre Hill.

Pierson also unsuccessfully ran for the Democratic Party nomination to become the next Franklin County prosecutor. He narrowly lost to County Prosecutor-elect Shayla Favor.

Leonard said it was expected Pierson would leave after the Coy trial concluded. He did not know who would take over the case in Pierson's place. A date has not been scheduled for Coy's sentencing.

Pierson could not be reached for comment.
