Columbus City Council passes resolution in support of Ukraine

Columbus City Council passed a resolution Monday night in support of the people of Ukraine, welcoming them to the city as refugees and condemning the Russian invasion.

The council also indicated they will set aside $100,000 next week to support people fleeing the European country.

鈥淥ur world has seen enough destruction, separation of families and unnecessary loss of life. I encourage cities across the nation to open their doors to the people of Ukraine," said Councilman Emmanuel Remy who introduced the resolution. "I also encourage our local community to prepare ourselves to welcome our Ukrainian sisters, brothers and friends.鈥

He called the Russian invasion 鈥渞eckless and inhumane.鈥 He urged the federal government to make the process to resettle refugees easier.
