Separate shootouts with Columbus Police over the weekend resulted in two suspects dead in less than 24 hours.
Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant led a press conference Monday afternoon with other area law enforcement officials to explain what happened, displaying both body cams and a dash cam.
The first shooting happened Saturday evening on the city's East Side.
Just after 7 p.m., officers went to the area of McAllister Avenue and Lockwood Road on a report of shots fired.
There officers found a man who shot at them with a rifle.
At least one officer returned fire, hitting the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later. The Franklin County Coroner's office on Tuesday identified the suspect as 50-year-old Corey Roach.
Officers and medics were then directed to a home on Lockwood Road where they found a woman who police believe had been shot by the suspect before officers arrived.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner's office has identified her as Nicole Pleasant, 45.
The second police shooting was of a suspect who allegedly opened fire inside an Amazon warehouse facility in West Jefferson in Madison County on Sunday.
No injuries were reported at the scene. But police said that one caller said he was almost executed by the shooter.
West Jefferson police said Ali Hamsa Yusuf was a contract security guard at the Amazon fulfillment center there.
Police said he fired a semiautomatic handgun in the facility when police were called to the scene and he fled east to Columbus' Southeast Side.
Officers responded to Georgesville and Clime roads just before 6 p.m.
Police said there was an exchange of gunfire between Yusuf and officers, during which one of the officers was hit in their bulletproof vest.
Yusuf was also hit, and was pronounced dead at an area hospital just before 7 p.m.
The officer who was injured was said to be in stable condition.
Police have no motive yet for the Amazon incident.
Both police shootings are being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, in line with department policy.
Bryant said all of the officers involved in these shootings were not being identified.
Bryant cited Marsy's Law, which the Columbus Police argue protects police officers' identities when they are victims of a crime. She said the officers that were not injured were shot at.
