Dr. Talisa Dixon, Superintendent/CEO for Columbus City Schools, announced Thursday on she will retire at the end of the academic school year.
Her retirement will take effect on June 30, 2023. Dixon has served as the district's superintendent/CEO for the past four years.
Dixon discussed her decision to step down in an open letter posted .
"For the past three and a half years, I have had the honor and privilege of leading Columbus City Schools, serving the students and families who make up our diverse and wonderfully unique community," she stated. "It was not an easy decision, but I knew it was time, and I am leaving with a full heart and an undeniable confidence in the CCS community moving forward."
Dixon became Superintendent/CEO in March 2019 after leading the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District for five years.
Before that, Dixon spent nine years as an administrator in CCS from 2001-2010 at the former Brookhaven High School and at Columbus Alternative High School (CAHS).
In a statement, CCS Board President Jennifer Adair said, "The Board is grateful for Dr. Dixon鈥檚 contributions over the past four years, especially in navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic."
Adair also stated, "Despite this change in leadership, the work will not stop or diminish. Our dedicated teachers, administrators, and staff will continue to serve our students, their families, and our community. The Board of Education remains committed to improving student outcomes and developing Portrait-ready graduates.鈥�
Columbus City Schools is the largest school district in the state.
