Defense attorneys are expected to continue their case defending the former Columbus police officer who in his vehicle in 2018.
Attorneys for former Columbus police officer Andrew Mitchell are expected to present evidence that they say will justify the shooting. Last week jurors heard from a former member of the now-disbanded vice squad.
Before the defense rests, they're expected to call Mitchell himself to the stand and their own police use-of-force expert.
Defense attorneys say Mitchell acted as any reasonable police officer would have when he shot the woman because Castleberry slashed him with a knife and she was resisting arrest.
The state argues Castleberry was trying to escape from Mitchell because she didn’t know he was really a police officer and that he didn't follow proper undercover procedures.
Mitchell is regarding using his position on the vice squad to force women to have sex with him to stay out of jail. The jury is not expected to hear about those charges.
