Columbus Police on Wednesday released body camera video footage of the fatal shooting of Miles Jackson inside St. Ann's Hospital on Monday.
The video shows a more than a six-minute struggle with Jackson within an emergency room exam room that led to police officers shooting him multiple times. Right before police fired multiple shots at Jackson, a single shot was fired.
The names of the Columbus Police officers who fired shots at the 27-year old Jackson have been released. Columbus Police identify them as Andrew Howe and Ryan Krichbaum, both are 15-year veterans of CPD.
Security officers involved from Mount Carmel St. Ann's hospital have not been identified.
The video initially shows two Columbus police officers struggling to subdue and retrieve a gun that Jackson had in his possession. One police officer used a taser on Jackson when his gun fired an initial shot.
As police searched Jackson, they found a gun and a bullet in his pants.
The first shot led to a several-minute stand-off between Jackson and police officers. The officers yelled orders at Jackson to put his hands on his head and let go of the gun. Jackson is heard repeatedly telling police officers that he wasn't going to move to avoid being shot.
Security officers involved from Mount Carmel St. Ann's hospital have not been identified.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said on Wednesday that preliminary ballistic testing showed Jackson had a gun and shots were fired from the gun.
"BCI鈥檚 investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday afternoon at St. Ann鈥檚 Hospital remains ongoing. We can confirm through preliminary ballistic testing that the decedent had a gun and shots were fired," Yost said in a statement.
Jackson was initially transported to St. Ann鈥檚 after Westerville Police found him asleep in a car. Police officers accompanied the man to the emergency room because he had outstanding warrents in Columbus.
