One of the nation’s largest rock festivals returns to Columbus this weekend. runs Friday through Sunday and brings some of the biggest names in rock music to MAPFRE Stadium.
Like many before it, this year’s festival is a mix of up-and-coming metal bands and aging megabands. Acts including Avenged Sevenfold, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Godsmack and Tool will play the Monster Energy Main Stage over the weekend.
Last year, record crowds turned out despite heavy rain and the unexpected death of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell two days before their scheduled set. Rain is once again expected for all three days this year.
Umbrellas are banned from the stadium, as are folding chairs and bags larger than 14 inches x 14 inches x 6 inches.
This year’s show also features a local high school band. Pray For Sleep to play at the festival on Sunday, so two members will have to skip graduation at Olentangy Orange High School.
