Gov. Kasich Says He Won't Sign 'Stand Your Ground' Bill

Gov. John Kasich has gotten even more direct in his statements suggesting his views on gun regulations have changed. Though he鈥檚 signed expanding gun rights he鈥檚 been presented with as governor, he says he won鈥檛 sign a controversial bill currently under consideration. 

In a departure from his usual statement that he doesn鈥檛 comment on legislation, Kasich said on that he鈥檚 pushing back on one of the 14 bills currently in the legislature that would expand gun rights.

鈥淚f I think it鈥檚 going to endanger the public, I鈥檓 not going to sign it,鈥� Kasich said. 鈥淔or example, there鈥檚 talk now in my state about changing Stand Your Ground. I said, 鈥業鈥檓 not signing it. Don鈥檛 give it to me.鈥欌€�

Ohio is not currently a 鈥淪tand Your Ground鈥� state, according to the , meaning that gun owners must 鈥渞etreat before using deadly force in self-defense in a public place.鈥� introduced by Republican state Sens. Joe Uecker and Jay Hottinger would change that, but it鈥檚 still being considered in committee.

Kasich鈥檚 campaign website used to say he signed every pro-Second Amendment measure during his term, but recently it鈥檚 been replaced with a section called  Kasich has also said the group he鈥檚 convened to discuss gun regulation recommendations will meet again Wednesday.
