A NASA facility in Cleveland called off a lockdown after a false alarm Friday morning. Investigators at NASA headquarters in Washington D.C. are looking into the matter. NASA officials said the false report of a gunman at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland resulted from emergency testing at another space agency facility.
NASA Glenn director Ramon Lugo said a Glenn employee received an automated call about 9:30 a.m. warning of a shooter. Lugo said the Glenn worker received the call because he shares the same last name as a worker at a different facility which was conducting an emergency notification test.
Lugo said the Glenn center was unaware of the other facility's testing and ordered the lockdown.
The lockdown was called off about an hour-and-a-half later.
