As I was digging for information about the upcoming ProMusica Chamber Orchestra performances featuring Norwegian trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth, I was struck by an old bit of "conventional wisdom" that many a music teacher has tried to change.
and are not the first female trumpeters by any stretch of the imagination. They are, however, the most prominent ones in the eye of the general public.
All you have to do is a to uncover a huge list of fabulous musicians. Over the last decade, Helseth has done her part to dispel that myth by embarking on regular tours with her 10-piece, all-female brass ensemble .
She began the project in 2007 for the opportunity to perform with some of her musical friends. After a number of European tours, the ensemble traveled to Paris and the United States, with performances at Wolf Trap, New York and Philadelphia, to name a few.
